How do you apply a sticker?

Short answer: clean the surface and let it dry completely, lift the sticker off the sheet by one corner, position one edge first and press from the centre outwards with a card to push the air out. Choose opaque film for wet areas and clear material for glass and bottles; test first for critical jobs.

Before you apply: the surface

Most of the adhesion depends on the surface. Even the best sticker will not hold well on a dusty, greasy, wet or cold surface. Clean the surface, wipe off any grease and let it dry completely. On rough cardboard, textured plastic or flaking paint, adhesion can be weaker; test on these surfaces first.

Step-by-step application

  1. Decide where the sticker goes; if needed, mark it lightly with a pencil or masking tape.
  2. Lift the sticker off the sheet by one corner; try not to touch the adhesive side with your fingers.
  3. Touch the top edge or one corner lightly to your mark first and check the alignment.
  4. Lay the sticker down with a plastic card or soft cloth, pressing from the centre outwards to push the air out.
  5. Finally, press the edges once more. You can push a small remaining bubble towards the edge.

Which material for which surface?

  • Coated paper: paper-based; for boxes, cartons, jar lids and gift packs in dry conditions.
  • Opaque film: waterproof and tear-resistant. For fridges, bathrooms, kitchens and wet areas.
  • Clear: shows the surface underneath; for glass, bottles and clear packaging. White areas stay transparent.

We compare the materials in detail in our how to choose a label material guide.

Glass, shop windows and bottles

For stickers applied to the outside of glass, dark and vivid colours look good on clear material. If the print should face outwards from inside a shop window, consider the clear with white + colour option of sheet labels and mention it in the order note. On strongly curved surfaces such as a bottle neck, small and narrow stickers sit better; large stickers may lift at the edges.

Common mistakes

  • Applying to a surface that is still damp or cold.
  • Pressing the whole sticker down at once; air gets trapped in the middle.
  • Holding the adhesive side with your fingers; grease and dust weaken adhesion.
  • Using a standard sticker where it must be removed later: residue-free removal cannot be guaranteed for our standard products.

Delivery and ordering

Stickers come cut on 33 × 48 cm sheets; you peel each one off the sheet. The minimum order is 10 sheets; you place the stickers on the sheet in your file, and the per-sheet price appears at once on the sheet labels page. Express orders approved Mon–Fri by 18:00 ship the next working day by 12:00; standard production takes 5 working days.
